HEY YOU! HOW WOULD YOU LIKE TO CATCH A THIEF?

Let’s show you how — but first, let’s understand what this thief looks like.

It has no warning sign. It moves silently and steadily. It slowly destroys vision without pain, without obvious symptoms, and often without the person realizing what is happening until significant damage has already occurred.

This silent thief is known as Glaucoma.

During World Glaucoma Week which holds every 2nd week of March each year we joined the global movement to fight the “Silent Thief of Sight” through awareness campaigns, public education, free screenings, and community outreach.

Understanding Glaucoma

Glaucoma refers to a group of eye diseases that damage the optic nerve — the vital structure responsible for carrying visual information from the eyes to the brain. This damage can lead to progressive vision loss and, if left untreated, permanent blindness.

What makes glaucoma particularly dangerous is that the damage is usually gradual and painless. In many cases, people may not notice changes in their vision until the disease has reached an advanced stage.

  • Glaucoma is the second leading cause of blindness worldwide
  • It is the leading cause of irreversible blindness
  • Millions of people globally are affected
  • Early detection is critical to preserving vision
  • Regular eye examinations remain the best protection

Our Commitment to Fighting the Silent Thief

At De-Lens Ophthalmics, we believe awareness saves sight. During World Glaucoma Week, our team organized several activities aimed at educating the public and encouraging early eye examinations.

These activities included:

  • Public enlightenment campaigns
  • Educational talks and seminars
  • Media appearances and talk shows
  • Free glaucoma screening programs
  • Patient counseling and eye health education

Our message was simple: Green Means GO — Go Get Your Eyes Tested.

Why We Created the Glaucoma Support Group

After the awareness week, we realized that one week alone was not enough. People living with glaucoma need continuous encouragement, support, education, and a community that understands their journey.

This inspired us to establish the De-Lens Ophthalmics Glaucoma Support Group — a safe and supportive community where individuals affected by glaucoma can share experiences, receive guidance, and encourage one another.

During the inauguration of the support group, one participant emotionally shared how both his mother and grandmother lost their sight to glaucoma. Stories like these remind us why awareness, early detection, and support matter so much.
